Help Us Build Community Through Creativity
Hallwalls is an organization started by artists and sustained by lovers of the arts and the power of artists’ creativity. Since our founding in 1974, we have brought people together for shared experiences with groundbreaking art in multiple disciplines: visual arts, jazz & new music, film, video art, performance art, and literature. And none of it would be possible without our individual supporters.
Despite the challenges the pandemic presented, we pressed forward and created exceptional virtual arts programming for our community when it was most in need. Here are some highlights that were made possible through individual donations to our Annual Campaign:
- Our 47th Annual Members Exhibition, largest in our history with 195 exhibiting artists of all ages.
- Out of that same Members Exhibition, we sold around two dozen works for the artists, ranging from one painting by co-founder Charlie Clough to another by an 11-year-old artist exhibiting her work for the first time!
- In a rare September 2021 appearance—in partnership with the historic Colored Musicians Club as part of our .9 Mile Collaborative—we brought the renowned Sun Ra Arkestra to Buffalo for a dazzling performance for an audience of nearly 400 that included visitors from as far as New York City and Detroit.
- Concurrent with his spring 2021 solo exhibition at Hallwalls, Bronx-base Dominican American artist Kenny Rivero had a major exhibition at the Brattleboro Museum that was featured in a profile in the New York Times in which his Hallwalls exhibition was also mentioned, and this past September was featured in New York’s Armory Show, also reviewed in the Times.
- 2021–2022 exhibition highlights feature a career survey of paintings by Tuscarora/Onondaga artist Jay Carrier, a 30-year survey of the Inuit women’s collaborative Arnait Video Productions, and a solo show by Bonnie Collura, featured on the cover of the Sept./Oct. 2021 issue of Sculpture magazine with a 12-page cover story.
Last year we received essential support from over 200 individuals with gifts ranging from $5 to $2,500 per donation. Please consider giving to Hallwalls—in any amount. Such individual support remains key to our ongoing success and powers our ability to grow and unite our community through creativity.
